Injectable Fillers

Enhance your skin.

Injectable dermal fillers do exactly what the name implies: They are injected under the skin to fill in creases and hollow areas and enhance shallow contours. Fillers can be used to plump the lips or even to reduce the appearance of indented scars.

Juvederm®, Restylane®, Perlane®, Voluma® and Belotero® are hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers.  These are the most commonly used fillers in dermatology offices. They last from 6-24 months and can be dissolved easily in the office if the result is not what the patient desired. Allergic reactions are rare.

Allergan (the makers of Juvederm) has recently come out with a more advanced line of products: Voluma for mid face, Volbella for lips and lip lines and Vollure for nasolabial folds. They are a new generation with “Vycross” technology, which means they are smoother, more natural looking and they may last longer than the “Juvederms.” These Vycross products are also made from hyaluronic acid.  This is what we at Dermatology Specialists of Kansas City use.

Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in the body. The hyaluronic acid-containing fillers mentioned above also contain a small amount of lidocaine to minimize pain. A local, topical cream anesthetic is often used to minimize any uncomfortable injection sensations. Side effects can include bruising, swelling, and lumps. We will discuss the risks and benefits of fillers, as well as select the proper filler for your needs.
